If you want to get your website ranked higher on Google then you’ll want to take a look at your backlinks. Backlinks are crucial if you want to move up in the rankings. Google judges your site depending on your keywords, your content and the authority of your site which will be inherited by backlinks. Therefore Google judges you depending on the amount of backlinks your site has to other sites, but some links have more authority than others.
For example, if your site is linked to a poor quality site with a low Moz domain authority (DA) that uses copied content, you won’t be given much authority from Google. If your site is linked to quality high ranked sites with many incoming backlinks and a good Moz domain authority (at least >30), then your backlinks will have much more authority and so they will increase your ranking much more.
You will also find out that such backlinks from authority sites (e.g. NYtimes, The Huffington Post) will help you to establish trust with your internet users, because they would be more likely to purchase from you if you are ranked as a result on the first page. Many people believe that the more backlinks they have, the more likely they will be to get a better ranking. This certainly is the case, but you need to remember that if your links are low quality (means only can inherit a small amount of authority) or not from trusted sites, this will not increase your ranking and can actually hurt your search engine ranking positions.
For this reason, you should always make sure that your backlinks are coming from trusted sites with a good amount of authority so they can give your site a lot of authority which will be higher valued in the eyes of Google.
